East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc. was ranked as the 1st Best Place to Work among manufacturing companies in Pennsylvania. An award was presented in Hershey, PA on November 30, 2004. The award, created by Pennsylvania’s Ridge-Schweiker Administration, is the first of its kind offered by a state.
This survey and award program was designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce and businesses. The 100 Best Places to Work in PA program is made up of two groups of companies: 50 medium size companies (50-250 employees) and 50 large size companies (251 or more). East Penn was honored in the large company category as the 3rd Best Place to Work among all types of employers.
The winners of the Best Places to Work award were chosen by the Great Place to Work Institute using the same formula as the Fortune “100 Best Companies to Work for” in America. The companies were chosen based on the following criteria:
Must be a for-profit business;
Must be publicly or privately held;
Must have a facility in Pennsylvania;
Must be in good standing with the Commonwealth’s Attorney General and the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.
In addition to information provided directly by the company, a randomly selected group of employees from each company completed a confidential survey. The survey asked the employees for feedback on several aspects of the workplace such as pride in work and accomplishments, fair treatment of people, management credibility, respect for people and camaraderie. The survey results were processed by an outside firm and accounted for 75% of the score used to determine each employer’s final ranking.
East Penn President Dan Langdon stated, “The dedication from our employees is truly remarkable. There are many factors that can be attributed to East Penn’s optimistic future. However, much of this optimism is a result of our employees and their drive to produce the highest quality products and services while embracing continuous improvement throughout the company. To continue to be ranked as one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania is confirmation of their dedication to excellence.”
