Navigating EVs & Batteries

Why is EHP important to me?

EHP stands for Electric Hybrid Performance. It’s a symbol that lets you know that this battery is equipped to serve more of an auxiliary role than traditional starting. That makes your low voltage battery choice much easier. By protecting the low voltage system with the right type of battery, you optimize its overall reliability and performance.

Why do they use a lead battery in an EV, when the main battery is Lithium?

The lead battery serves as a supporting battery. If the main pack fails, it’s up to the supporting battery to power critical safety functions. A Lead battery is a more robust design and serves as a better safety backup than a Lithium battery. Lithium batteries need to integrate electronics that are not as durable and reliable, especially in the event of an accident.

How is a lead battery used
differently in an EV?

Traditional vehicles use batteries to start the engine and to stabilize the electronics. Electric and Hybrid vehicles use the battery for all types of safety critical and auxiliary power reasons. Here are a few:

  • Start-stop functions in micro hybrids
  • Starting assist
  • Powering cabin accessories
  • Steer-by-wire power backup
  • Brake-by-wire power backup
  • Other smart controls or enhanced functions

IS IT GREEN?

You bet. Lead battery technology is the most recycled consumer product in the world. Its high rate of recyclability actually helps raise the sustainability profile of hybrid and electric vehicles.

What if I don’t have a Hybrid or an EV?

If EHP can handle the accessory needs for EVs, it can handle the extra demands of today’s vehicle. Whatever you plug in or power on, EHP gives an added reassurance that you got the extra power you need. As the demand on batteries continues to get more complex in any vehicle, batteries need to be equipped to handle this evolving electrification.

What does EHP mean to me?

It means you can have more control in ensuring the performance of your vehicle by choosing the right battery. It also means that you are continuing to do your part in conserving our natural resources and support a closed loop economy with battery products that are completely recyclable.
