East Penn Manufacturing and RSR Technologies today announced they have renewed and extended their lead battery research agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory.
The two companies, leaders in the North American lead battery industry, have been working with Argonne using a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) to explore new ways to enhance the performance of lead and other materials in lead batteries. That agreement has been extended for another three years.
“We have been very pleased with the work accomplished since we entered into the CRADA with Argonne in 2016,” said Dr. Timothy Ellis, President of RSR Technologies, Inc., of Dallas, TX. “We not only have learned a great deal about the performance of lead, but have come to realize that much more work can be done.”
As part of the extended CRADA, with both RSR Technologies and East Penn will provide financial support to use Argonne’s expertise and technical facilities.
“We are looking forward to further work, in partnership with Argonne, to achieve an even deeper understanding of this essential battery technology,” said Bob Flicker, COO of East Penn Manufacturing, headquartered in Lyon Station, PA.
The program is managed through the Argonne Collaborative Center for Energy Storage Science (ACCESS), a collaboration of scientists and engineers from across Argonne that works with a wide spectrum of industry researchers on multiple battery chemistries and technologies.
“The lead battery has had a significant impact in various applications over the past 100 years,” said Venkat Srinivasan, Director of ACCESS. “We are excited to be able to leverage our newly developed state-of-the-art scientific tools to make this battery technology become even more valuable to consumers.”
